D.E. Wittkower, PhD, is Professor and Chair of Philosophy && Religious Studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. A specialist in philosophy of technology, he researches and teaches on cybersecurity, information ethics, and the conduct of everyday life through digital mediation. In addition to being Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sociotechnical Critique, he is editor or author of seven books on philosophy for a general audience, and author or coauthor of around fifty academic book chapters and journal articles. He has also written for Slate, Speakeasy, and Passcode, and has recorded a dozen audiobooks with Librivox that, combined, have been accessed over a million times. He s led and supported sponsored research with granting agencies including the National Science Foundation and the Commonwealth Cybersecurity Initiative, on topics including centering disability in interface design and teaching information literacy for cybersecurity professions. In his spare time he is an award-winning orchid grower, restores vintage fountain pens that he sells on Etsy at DWittRestoration, and fences competitively in foil. He lives by the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk, Virginia, with his wife, two children, and four cats.
